Very common problem really. Hence why many opt for a decent hydraulic jack (bottle or trolley)

Im mean really your car is a 2005 so your jack is nearly 10 years old

Unless you brought a new jack why rip the Censored out of the dealer they didn't design it Confused

10 years old or not, the standard scissors jack supplied by LR is not fit for purpose. I saw 40 year old scissors jacks work just like new.

The dealer will probably say "wow... that's a first" Whistle

They will probably give you another death trap.. i mean... scissors jack.

the standard jack is fine if you use it exactly as directed

Used OEM jack at roadside as had no other choice on several Discoveries with no issues

its not designed for everyday use but fine for occasional use

Sorry Ken but that is just not true.
There's been thread upon thread regarding the dangers of the standard issue jack and there's been numerous stories of near misses just like this one.
Just because you've not personally had a jack fail doesnt mean the thing is safe because many posters will strongly disagree.
I have not had one fail either admittedly but thats probably because of the many horror stories have stopped me from using it.
Those things are lethal regardless of whether you use them as directed or not.

There's been a dozen or more reports on the site over the years ...peeps have just bought trolley jacks or jack for other vehicles ...even some of those have failed though.

I'm not apportioning blame here but the jack is an emergency one and the instructions must be followed to the absolute letter. If you are jacking at home then invest in some additional kit Thumbs Up Smile

The jack is to do just that.... Jack it up... If working under it you would use stands...

Many on here have upgraded to the merc sprinter jack or as i did get a bottle jack
If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works
