It is with deep regret that I have to announce that in certain parts of Scotland today, they break up for the school holidays. I think they are finished at 12.30 hrs.
With SWMBO working, bar a week of it, then it's down to me to entertain and keep order for the three of them until 16th August.
Please God, be gentle with me........

Do they really finish school much earlier than in England?
In which parts of Scotland?
Do you also have terms?
Might really be moving to Scotland so wife and daughter can enjoy longer summer holiday and sun It takes all sorts (to make a world).

Yes, regarding the Summer Holidays, it's pretty much general in the whole of Scotland. You can guarentee everyone's back by the third week in August, never later. I did hear of one area in Strathclyde that started their holidays last week, but I can't remember which one.
Our autumn holidays are normally a couple of weeks earlier than the English ones, but that means we can get cheaper holidays.
The Christmas and Easter ones about the same.

I moved to Scotland during summer when I was 10 and lost half my holidays so I know all about it - never forgiven my parents

Yes, it would be great if they found their own amusement and got their finger out, but that ain't gonna happen despite hints, prompts and bribery.
SWMBO has more holidays, but after the kids go back!
Muddy, you have my sympathies.

Where? That would be good as I would prefer longer summer break and less break during the year (as I am used to) It takes all sorts (to make a world).

South Lanarkshire schools broke for summer hols last Friday. Don't I know it SWMBO and I have a 6 year old to entertain for the next 5 weeks before he goes on holiday with his parents. Never last at this rate although my Lego skills have improved out of all recognition.

You have my sympathy
Mine are in their 20s now but I had 3 to entertain and used to run my business from home - my profits used to dip between July and September - wonder why

your lucky, you can hand them back! I was a late starter with a young wife! Tell me about the Lego, I pick it off the floor, toilet, garden and most places you couldn't even imagine on a daily basis.

It's of to lower largo the week after next for a week.Swmbo's lot live round about so it's kids day, day to be decided 5 nieces and nephews all under 7 going ballistic. So depending on the day aim off to mikey,s to,get the D3 serviced and rear arbs/drop links seen to. Only peace I'll get for the week. If you don't come back from the rock pools soaking wet it has not been a good day. Oh where are the simple pleasures of being retired.
