Black smoke - again. SORTED :) |

My old bus has developed a stealth mode. Under acceleration it produces black smoke.
The IC hoses are new and are OK.
The EGRs are blanked.
The Turbo actuator moves freely.
My thinking is a cracked Allisport IC but I've not checked. Anything else that might also cause the problem I need to look at?
IF it is the Allisport IC, how easy is it to swap it for the RS500 IC? New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Iid tool live values>inlet manifold pressure will tell you what's happening. A leaking/burst intercooler or pipe will develope a black oil patch where it is leaking.
Is performance down?- if not have you had a cheapo re-map? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

A few people have suffered from cracked Allisport I/c at the point where they're bolted to the car is a favourite.
If it is cracked, they usually fix it foc. Bodsys Brake Bible

Have you changed the air filter recently, this will do it on a TD4 freelander

Air filter is new
Remap is 100k old and is pucker BAS remap
Power seems OK
The smoke tends to happen as you lift off and change gear, particularly in the lower gears accelaerating from a stop or low speed.
I think I'll spray the intercooler with washing up liquid and see if it bubbles.
It'll be interesting to see if Allisport do fix it if it is split after 100k of use. If they don't, is the RS500 IC a straight swap? New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

RS500 IC not a straight swap you need to trim the inner sides where the bumper crash bar bolts on. It's the inner 4 bolt mountings you have to cut off 2 either side. It's not difficult if the bolts come out but 3 of mine snapped. Chris

Sorted! I have a couple of holes where the IC brakets join the IC. Great service from Allisport who have agreed, no quibbles, to repair it f.o.c whailst I wait. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
