It's all happend so fast! Quick Question! |
|
Hi all,
I picked up a Discovery 3 2.7v6TD 55 plate this afternoon. Love it! I have checked the oil level which needs topping up according to the dipstick. I have ordered a 20litre barrel of castrol Edge 5w30 which will arrive Friday. It's oil change is due in 4k which I intend on doing myself. I have a 220 mile journey tomorrow afternoon can I top up with some fully synth 5w40 (elf brand)I have in a sealed container or is this a big no no?. As it might be 5w30 edge oil already in the engine from its last service. The garage is shut which I called who done its last service as it is the bank holiday wkend! The history doesn't say 5w30 or not on the paperwork so any advice welcomed. I have herd mixing oil of different viscosity is frowned upon but not sure how tolerant these type of engines are as this is my first Discovery 3.
Any advice please give it as its a long journey to do with low oil but also a long journey with a top up of wrong oil or a oil mixing situation causing damage to my new pride and joy!
Kind Regards
Pasta

Any oil is better than no oil, I agree it will be fine.

Topping up to what? -High level or low level. Unless it is below low level I would leave it as it is, take some oil with you and just check the level before you start the return journey. Castrol Edge is suitable but over the top for a D3, Magnatec or Helix is correct and cheaper It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
