Cracked brake disc -

Hello everyone,
i changed my rear brake discs 6 weeks ago according to Bodsy's brake bible. Everything went fine, but last week a screaching noise appeared when applying the foot brake. Yesterday i checked the noisy left rear brake and found two cracks within the disc Shocked
Neither the mechanic guy at the local dealer nor a friend of mine - also car mechanic for 30 years - has an explanation what caused this failure. Both have no explanation for the blank places in the drum which are obviously the origin of the cracks.

Does anyone have a clue ?

BTW: The use of the EPB is very rare and there was NO screaching noise when applying ...

Manufacturer is ATE. Came with original glued package.

I think it would be interesting to see what the run out of the drum is ,it certainly looks like it has some high spots .

That's a plain and simple manufacturing fault.
Casting issue or heat treatment issue.

Take them back. ATE should be ok, they are part of the Continental group.

Looks like a casting fault, probably not cooled correctly creating a stress that has finally let go. ATE started as Alfred Tevis in 1906

Have you tried putting in the TecIdentify code to check they are genuine ATE discs?

I have to say the pad friction area of the disc also looks quite worn as well, certainly more than 6 weeks worth.
Any idea what make the pads were?
Is the bubbling paint on the epb shoes corrosion or heat related?
