I have never tried to prove it, but I thought it was the IR receiver for the RSE remote control?

It really is a light sensor.
The IR receivers for the RSE remote are built into each RSE LCD screen which relay the commands on the IS bus to the RSE module and then on to the Ai Net to the DVD autochanger.

Spotted the IR receivers just below the RSE screens when I had a 65 plate HSE lux last week

It's a webcam installed by Google to spy on your every move......(I checked on Facebook, and it's definitely true)...."Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
