How on earth can one change the fittings on top of the Airsprings? Is there a trick that I am not seeing or is it that my hands are too big or is it a "Body Off" job ? I am in middle of changing the three valves as well as all the fittings over to Legris fittings but am stuck at the Airspings. With lots of blood loss I can see the rears are possible but the fronts have totally stumped me............
All assistance gratefully received. Life always good with a Landy

It is possible to do it. There is very little space so it may be "hands too big". I'm as skinny as a snake which does have its advantages sometimes!
Once you do get access, it takes forever because you don't have any space to swing the spanner.
Good luck!

Yep it's tight,
I replaced my front airbag shocks last year, i had a set of Ring spanners that had a small opening in them, they passed over the airline to crack the airline connector to release the air pressure, then i removed the strut bolts, I think I used a combination of spanners and rachet spanner and have an idea that I accessed the furtherest nut from the engine bay?
When the strut nuts were loose, I used a telescopic magnet to retrieve The nuts as they came off the bolt. ( there is very little finger room)
When all the strut bolts were released, I dropped the shock down 1-2
Inches until I could get a spanner on the airline connector
To fully undo it and disconnect from the strut.

Thanks a lot for the info'. Thought there may be a trick in there -- Another "Body-Off LR " job if those fittings leaked, probably charge us a few grand for the privilege of Dealership service ! Life always good with a Landy

Just undo the 3 bolts and drop the strut down, then easy access to air connection. Ratchet spanner is what I think I used when I swapped a front strut. Not a lot of room to work.

Hi Bob, since last visiting you I had to replace the front air springs. Manufacturing date was 09/02/2005 so probably the oldest set still original. Drivers' side was easily reachable with a 12mm open flat spanner. On the passenger side I loosened it after I dropped the airspring. A trick I picked up, whilst the four outboard nuts on the springs can be reached with a ring or open socket the two inside ones are not that accessible. In the engine bay there are heat shields that is fastened with a single phillips screw and two clips. if you remove the screws and pull up on the shields they can be removed and the two inner nuts can be reached with a socket and extention as they are tilted inboard.

Many thanks guys. I am at the stage of "Battery disconnect" to check if I have a leak or if it's electronic. So far it would appear that the valve change was good but I would still like to change to LEGRIS fittings on the Airsprings and be sure of a good solid connection. Wonder why LR went the route of these loose collet type fittings when there were so many 'modern' alternatives available? I was using LEGRIS twenty years ago on airline systems.......... Suppose it was just to annoy DIY guys Life always good with a Landy

Hi 'Dr Jones', you've been busy. The way it seems to be going, you'll have a new D3 by the time you have finished. Meant to ask you when you were here - have you done the "Cattle Trek" route in Bots? I went with total of 5 vehicles ( one Toyota, we aren't snobbish) and it was a very interesting trip. I would think that since they stopped hunting in Bots it would be even better. Good luck with the Tank installation. Life always good with a Landy
