Turbo recommendations
Think I maybe going down the route of finally replacing my turbo (or my Inde will be) and was first of all wondering best supplier and price and if there was a better make or any makes to stay away from? Also has anyone used an upgraded turbo that is a like for like swap? Finally I don't cover many motorway miles so have they sorted the actuator problem out on replacement turbo's now or will I still have a siezed actuator in a year or two?
Any advice much appreciated before I give the go ahead D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

There is a modified actuator rod which prevents the seizing and it can be bought separately from LR dealers and other suppliers.
I've always used a good quality CHRA core for other engines and these will be under £200, just need to transfer your old turbo snail covers to the new CHRA.

Complete new Borg Warner turbo is 'around' £800 to£900 (I got mine from Midland Turbo a few years back, next day delivery)

Ive always had a sneaky feeling all the recon turbo boys do is fit a new core with your snails as suggested above by Defector.

I just had mine referred from Midland Turbo, seemed to do a good job so far.
SCM are one of the Borg warner official distributor. They don't sell direct to unless trade, but i called them and they were very helpful and they redirected the call through to my local supplier Multipart Direct (Peterborough Branch in my case) and gave them the price to give to me £525 + vat and this was for a new turbo not recon.
I was put off the recon route by reading the potential issues ref calibration of the VNT, knowing mine would need some need casing and maybe issues with the exchange surcharge some of the vendors surcgarge was circa £200
I did call Turbo technics (reputable firm) but they were £550 + vat for a recon and needed my old turbo to rework and quoted 4-5 days
SCM through Multiparts Direct (Peterborough in my case) was the best i could find for a new turbo complete with fitting kit and it was in stock next day and from what i can see is similar money to a recon from a reputable firm
Good luck

Oh and i read on this forum that just changing the CHRA alone can give trouble as the electronic VNT system supposedly can only be calibrated at the factory or one or two UK based authorised repairers.
Also from this forum i understand that the VNT system can be affected by build up of carbon etc and cause issues with the actuator and motor, so just changing the CHRA does not always fix the issues. It sounds like you can be lucky.
I choose the new route based on the above issues and finding one at a good price.
I have also seen on here that the actuator was modified later and the turbo part number does change slightly. In addition i believe there was a software upgrade to exercise the acutator to help keep it from
seizing
You will find more details on this forum if you search and i am sure someone can confirm or not my summary.
Cheers Mark

Thanks for the advice guys I have also read some of the posts on here that state that calibration has to be carried out with each individual turbo and therefore you can only buy as 1 unit. My D3 already has the software that moves the actuator through its motion with ignition on but it still unfortunately siezes up especially if I don't use her for a couple of weeks. The price Blooders has paid for a B&W sounds great especially for a brand new one. Anyone know what make LR use as OEM? Also have these turbo's got the upgraded actuator arm or is that something you have to purchase and fit separately.
Thanks for all the advice so far D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

The Land Rover turbo is a KKK one (Not sure that's a great brand name these days), who from what i have seen have been brought by Borg Warner. These are the genuine OEM part i used the part number of the failed turbo to track it down.
Pretty sure it has the revised actuator will try and remember to post a pic later

Hi again Blooders
Did you say you purchased this turbo recently Mark and do you have any contact details for them as I think at that price for a brand new B&W I would want to get one ASAP.

Purchased a couple of weeks ago. The link to SCM website is in my first post but the number is 01484 345345. They don't sell direct to the public but transferred me directly to local distributor and told them the price to quote me which was £525+vat for a new one.
SCM connected me through to Motor Parts Direct Peterborough, SCM were very helpful.
