Bong, HDC, F mode..

Hi first post here, and not a very good one unfortunately

2008 tdv6 euro 4 variant

Been getting the dreaded bong, christmas treee lights, HDC fault, suspension on low etc...

First it was doing it rather frequently, switch off, restart and it is ok for a bit... Recently it started doing it less and sometimes goes for days without doing it, then it does it some 4 times in a 100 m.

My indy checked for faults and we get the fault "fuel pressure in rail too low" and fuel pressure too high" ... Talk about contradictions...

So we are looking at fuel pump issues...

HPFP was removed and sent to diesel pump specialist... Here in Malta someone has had his pump overhauled and seems to have been fine... But i know this particular case was a euro e version and solenoids have been replaced...

This specialist put my pump on some machine that tests these pumps which also cleans them internally.... This pump of mine seems to be fine, within all the settings that the factory data specifies so it seems ok... My pump is branded Siemens but my indy noticed when he removed the thing that diesel was rather black and dirty...

Since pump seems to be fine my indy will put it back in place tomorrow and we will then see what happens...

However i am not too convinced.... Would anyone have experience of this fault and symptoms and what could possibly cause it? Next is the the in tank pump but it is not exactly cheap and to just order one from uk for the sake of changing it is an option but this will cost close to 500 euro and might not be needed...

To make matters a bit more complicated i have an overland trip to sicily booked in a couple of weeks so I am a bit lost as i am not trusting the car..

Sorry for the lengthy post... Hope you can offer some advice..

Thanks

Hi cil111

i too had exactly the same thing though in my case my HPFP was stuffed so i replaced it went for a drive same problem still happening took it back and discovered the low pressure pump was only supplying 1psi of pressure when it should be around 7 psi so that is going to be fixed tomorrow will let you know hoe i get on. so get the garage to check the low pressure pump, to see how it is performing. good luck i am in for about $6000.00 dollars fingers crossed no more issue.

Try brake bulbs and brake pedal switch. I have had the same and changing the switch sorted it

Did they check what pressure is at the fuel bleed on top of the engine, sounds like the LPFP to me..

Flack Thumbs Up

By way of an update... I think it is sorted...

New LPFP,

HPFP removed and checked by the fuel chap and cleaned..

Tank had a lot of gunk etc.. Around the lpfp all with tar like stuff... Did not risk as i had an overland trip... So changed the pump.. Hefty bill but better safe...

Also changed the brake switch and battery to be safe... So cannot say what was wrong... But most prob it was the stuff in the tank and lpfp...

Now works fine thankfully...

Thanks to all
