Key repair
Key repair
I have had an email from my key repair man as the chip is to far damaged to be able to repair and has suggested he can complete the repair if I was to search out a used key from a scrap dealer or another source. He said that he could get what he needed from the old spare key.(obviously working at the time of the car being srapped).
I have been advised that there are plenty on eBay but I am a bit put off as these keys with the board have never been programmed to anything so there is no memory or retained information in the chip that maybe required to enable my key to work as it should.
(Hope that is clear enough for people to understand )
D3 2004 HSE
Any direction would be helpful, but not a new key I just cannot afford that.
Thanks
Pete

Ok eventually found my answer, as I suspected it need a genuine used land rover key with mother board,as to cheaper ones advertised with fob and motherboard use far inferior micro chips and are not reliable.
Thought you'd like to know .

If you have the right reader then you can program the key yourself by putting it in the ignition lock or am I missing something - its been known before

I think you guys are not reading my question correctly.
I have the key it was sent off for the repair as the three buttons would not work I could start the car and lock it with the key but none of the buttons would work. the result of the repair there was some water damage, i was informed that for the repair of the damage caused by the water the guy can retrieve the required chip/bits/parts whatever from a used key.
What's a load of ??????? About that then.

Repaired key
At last
Got my spare key back looks like new and fully functional.
As the guy said send him an old working spare key and he will repair mine with a replacement chip from it.
So those of you said it can't be done here is the proof. And the total cost was £25.00 including secured return delivery plus the £10.00 I gave a fella for an old land rover key.
Had been quoted over £200+++ for a new key and board so thats some saving if you ask me.
See pictures
The top key is the old original key housing ,the middle key is the one i sourced for a tenner for parts, the third key is my new working key ,and the board and chip are the replaced none working parts.
So all in all I got a complete working key for £35 rather than the £200++++ some others wanted Happy Days
