MY ENGINE BEING REBUILD

To all,

My Disco 3 engine TDV6 2.7 is being rebuild, 55 plate with 106k mileage. What do I need to ensure the mechanic has changed? Please advice me as I am new to the DISCO 3 family.
Thanks

The bottom bit cos the engine was non runner when I bought the from auction. The crank doesn't turn but the auctioneers didn't give me the full details of what the problem was.

I would be very careful about who is rebulding it and what parts they are using. There is great debate about what spares are available for engine rebuilds. You best bet is to contact Disco Mikey on here.

My view on rebuilding the TDV6 after a bottom end failure, seizure is don't. I've rebuilt many many engines over the years, none of them a TDV6. However from what I've read about it is, once the bottom end has gone bang, it's scrap. In fact this isn't confined to the TDV6 as 99.99% of engines are scrap after a crank failure. This is because crank failure causes huge bearing loadings. This will definitely distort and likely crack the block around the bearing caps. Not many makes engines suffer crank failure, some never do. Sadly the TDV6 does appear to be one that does.
If the engine has seized then in theory it's possible to rebuild if you can get OE quality parts. Sadly from what I've read, parts are hard to find.
It's probably best to swap the engine for a lower miles replacement.
