Test drive advice...

So Im test driving a 2010 HSE tomorrow, any advice of things to look out for.

Ill be testing the brakes to ensure no juddering, but what else should I check?

If a car suffers from hesitation, will it consistently happen, and under what conditions?

Ditto, will be listening out for knocking from suspension, EPB operation, smooth gear changes, brake effort, all electrics. Not sure what else really, just a good thorough workout.

I have a 2010 and have changed a wheel bearing so listen for that, also will be in the age for a new rear door handle on the tailgate, common I hear. Check the date stamp on the battery as probably on original battery so would really need a new one. Try all the buttons and make sure all works!! And above all enjoy!! Very Happy Very Happy

All the above. Also try to get it on to some bouncy ground if you can, to see how the suspension handles it. Also change the ride height a few times, all designed to see if you can manufacture a "normal ride height only" message that will tell you the compressor might need changing as it'll eventually fail. The early Disco 4's had a slightly inferior one to later ones and as a result I've had mine changed. If you do play with the ride height too much it will stop working and you'll have to wait for it to cool down, which is normal, but it should work well with just a few goes.

Check the gearbox too, see that all is tickety-boo there, usual things such as a bit of hard acceleration from static (may be a wee bit of delay initially, they all do that, sir), roll-on acceleration from about 40mph, etc. Check that the hill start thing works okay (the car should hold itself on a hill when you stop without applying the handbrake yourself). Check there's a spare under the rear end, they can get nicked.

Hope it's a good car. Mine's a 2010 and I love it.

Thanks this one is an Approved Used at a main dealer so gets 2yr warranty as just under 5yrs old. However I'm not sure if the warranty covers things like suspension bushes, EPB screeching or air con leaks etc and these are the niggling things that can get pricey to sort.

Give the brakes a split second 'stab' at low speed (5-10mph). If you hear a knock or feel it in the steering wheel you could well have worn suspension arms or lower steering column.

I'm in the same boat. Approaching with a glass half empty attitude much to the frustration of the vendor!

I've rushed in too many times before so now take my time and will walk away if it's not right.

Found a few minor cosmetic things that needed doing so have made them a condition of the sale. Better that than pick it up then trek back for warranty works.
