Depth gauge thingy
Hey guys
I'm close to purchasing a disco 4 2013 or 2014 depending on what I see. I know some models have the feature of telling you your wading depth which would come in quite useful for me.
Can anybody tell me which year / model it is standard or was it only an option?
It will save me calling and asking the question every time I see a car I like
Thanks in advance chaps

Every year, it's an option.
Depending on the year it might be a) not available at all (<MY13?) and might come as a different part of some other package. Best thing is to ask.
But don't get too excited about it - it only 'sees' a metre or so ahead of the bonnet. It won't allow you to halt at the edge of something broad and tell if it's too deep or not.

2014MY onwards ...it works with sensors under the side mirrors which bounce a signal off the water surface and as the system knows the ride height it then calculates the depth which displays on the screen

The Wading Depth Sensor is built into the door mirror and is an option, usually as part of the Exterior Detection Pack which consists of Blind Spot Monitoring, Closing Vehicle Sensing, Reverse Traffic Detection and Wading Senors, it currently costs £750 and needs to be fitted to vehicles with High or Premium Sound Systems.
It doesn't measure in front of the vehicle but straight down from the mirror and is designed for use in flood water where water depth is more likely to be constant rather than in offroad situations where it could vary by a considerable level.

If need be. Can this pack be fitted retrospectively?

It would probably need a new wiring loom, new door mirrors and fitting of additional sensors so I suspect that while technically feasible it is probably not a realistic proposition but someone with more knowledge may say otherwise.
