How to check oil pump version?
Hi,
I have looked around a lot online, how can I check if I have a bad or upgraded oil pump in my 2008 Disco 3 (reg Sept 2008). I should have checked it years ago but for some reason thought it was a 2009.
What do I need to remove to check, I have a nice mini cam/endoscope thing so might be able to sneak it in if I know where to look.
Thanks.Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

You can drop an endoscope down the front left side of the belts cover and read the serial number off the pump. They’re pretty cheap and useful anyway for chasing oil leaks etc.
I’ll try and find the good / bad serial numbers for you to check against, they’re posted on. A thread here somewhere. Checked mine a while back, surprisingly all good

You're year should have the upgraded one fitted, but the only way to tell for sure is remove the front cover and look, If you are doing the belts its a no brainer to change the oil pump anyway.
Also change the water pump at the same time.

You should be able to see it thru the fan all the way by the plastic cover of the belts.
I did check mine and was even able to just take photo of it with my phone (haven’t got the endoscope camera. It’s fiddlybut doable. I held my phone sort of behind the fan (just careful not to drop the phone) and few snaps and one of them I could see the number clearly.

Like Flack, said, the number may not be sufficient to know for sure…
Flack use to change them (oilpumps) for a living… so he will know…Best regards

I've just checked mine and the last 2 letters are AA, so totally stumped.

Finally got a camera into the affected area and it's covered in oil so I can't read the serial number....annoying.
On another day when the ground isn't wet, I'll see if I can get underneath the car, take off the protection plates and try and get my hand in the area to give it a wipe.
