MOT Class?
Evening all!
Had an interesting one this morning, took the D4 for its first MOT in my ownership, only for the tester to query the class of Mot that it was going to have? He said when he logged on and selected class 4 the computer told him that he was changing the details. He said this was due the weight of the vehicle that the computer is trying to say it should be a class 7 test.
Typically I just got out of bed and went to the garage this morning without any paper work as I thought it's all computerised so I wouldn't need any, well I had to go home and get last years certificate and log book, and low and behold on the certificate for last year it said class 4!
So it's been tested as class 4 and he said he'll see if vosa ring on Monday to ask why he's changed the details.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I had an interesting conversation too during my last MOT test for the D4.
The MOT tester insisted that the vehicle was class 7 because of its weight.
He had weighed it at 3.2 tonnes.
I insisted that it was not class 7 & how could an empty D4 (with 1/4 tank of fuel) possibly weigh 3.2 tonnes.!!!! I was sure it was much lighter than that.
My previous MOT certificate stated class 4. I showed him it.
He eventually charged me £40.00 for a class 4 test.
I've just double checked the receipt & MOT certificate.
The receipt states class 4 but the MOT certificate states class 7................Mitsubishi Outlander Phev 4H 2018.

MI vehicles (Cars up to 8 passenger seats ) up to 3500kg gross are surely class 4. Class 7 is for goods vehicles . Presumably a Commercial Discovery would be class 7

The issue seems to come about because the computer tells the tester when he logs the test that the vehicle you are testing is not class 4, this then gets the attention of the tester who looks under the bonnet at the weight on the plate And says the weight limit of both axels adds up to a mass of over 3000kg I can't remember exact figure but the simple computer says this is over a class 4 weight limit and if the tester dosent know any different then they won't/don't seem to want to test.
Mean while in the real world we all know that it is class 4 and have to have a song and dance to convince the guy through one way or another that the last person must have ignored the computer because I have had to go home and am now standing here with last years mot certificate which has a 4 on it!
Time will tell to see if next year the computer has remembered or he has to change it again!
Just goes to show computer says no! If some one hasn't told it the right information in the first place.
