Croatia September 2016
Hi Guys, just wondered if anyone can help with any advice on a holiday I'm looking into. Quick itinerary below but still tinkering so any help/tips are welcome. Thanks in advance as always.
Dubrovnik 4/5 days with few excursions eg Montenegro
Ferry up to Korluca and stay maybe 3 nights
Ferry to Hvar and stay maybe 3 nights.
Ferry to Split and stay a couple of days.
SWMBO likes a relaxed pace so can't go too mad with things...
First time to Croatia so we can always go back if we like it.Now driving BMW 330d Touring....misses D3...but not when at traffic lights
Don't rule out driving & crossing the Adriatic by ferry to Crotia - there are a number of crossings from Ancona, Pescara, and Bari to Croatian ports such as Zadar, Split, Vis, Stari, Grad/Hvar Island & Dubrovnik. Sadly the ferries from Venice are, IIRC, foot passengers only.
I've done the Ancona crossing a couple of times, once in December & once in May and quite enjoyed the whole trip. Longish in a Disco, really quite long in an MGA!
NJSSAm I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.
2016 Discovery 4 Landmark
2011 Mercedes Benz SL350 (R230)
1973 MG B GT V8 - 3.9L John Eales engine, 5 speed R380 gearbox, since 1975.
1959 MGA roadster - 1.9L Peter Burgess Engine - 5 speed gearbox
Past LRs - Multiple FFRs, Discos & a Series I - some petrol, some diesel,
none Electric or H2 fuel cell - yet.

We drove to the old Yugoslavia in the 60's in an old Thames Van that my Dad had converted into a Camper of sorts!! Even though I was young I can still remember the fantastic scenery. Only had a set of points and a fan belt for spares. But we made it there and back no problem. Just a slight scare in the Austrian Alps when my Dad hadn't put the hand brake on properly
It was such a good holiday we did it again in 1970. This time in the relative luxury of a Transit camper. I would imagine it would be a fantastic trip in a Discovery Discovery 4 HSE

Make sure to walk the walls of Dubrovnik.... Don't do it during the midday sun. Been there done that on a very hot July a few years ago. We also spent a few days on the island of Miljet. It was lovely and quite. There is only one hotel on the island. If you want peace and quite with nothing to do and all day to do it, we found it perfect.

We've driven to Croatia, and loved it. May well be going back this summer.

I've driven to Croatia several times now. Wouldn't contemplate flying there. A quick jaunt across Euro land. Cheap fuel in Lux. IIRC <80p/l.
UK-ferry-France-Lux-Germany-Austria-Slovenia-Croatia.
Have stayed in Zagreb (sh*thole), Split, Zadar plus loads of small coastal villages.
They run the Euro as a second currency but the exchange rate is a tad stacked in their favour
Hopefully going back again later this year, either there or Corsica for 2 weeks.
As for travel time, to get to mid Croatia from Calais. 3 leisurely days, ie start at 10 ish, look for campsite at 1700. 2 longer days, earlier start and later finish. Or if on a mission you can make it Stari Stelo, (home of the Croatia Trophy) in 18hrs. Only stopping for fuel and rest breaks HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE
They shall not grow old as those of us left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condem. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
