I would like to start this thread by personally thanking Andy Foster, and by thanking him I mean you absolute for providing me with a Tuff-Trek link in my earlier pop-up tent thread and providing me with an itch that now almost certainly needs scratching.
Anyway, I'm trying to canvas opinion (no pun intended) from those in the know and a quick search has identified a couple of you good people that own Tuff-Trek products, including Iguana, Sailorboi, lineman73, Albert McFly and Steve73.
Having got rid of the tin-tent recently, I'm considering the TT-02 (http://tuff-trek.com/our-tents.html), which will be there for occasional use.
Dara at Tuff-Trek kindly spent 20 minutes on the phone with me earlier ( Dara and thx if you're watching the thread) and suggested that I speak to end users to get an honest opinion.
So, a couple of questions:
Having only received half the funds from the recent tin-tent sale ( ) I don't really want to invest in a full rack as well as the rooftent, so has anyone mounted a TT-02 on just the OEM bars?
I'm not intending for it to be a full time addition to the D4, so how easy are they to mount?
I've seen some comments about light but, apart form that, how comfortable/useable are they for 2/3/4/5 nights away?
When you go away, how many of you normally sleep in it and do any of you use the awning as an extension in which to sleep?
And finally, for now, can somebody please confirm the load rating for the OEM bars? I'm sure it's not going to be an issue, but the TT-02 weighs in at 57kg!

I too was thinking of a roof tent but seeing as I like to have a drive round when I go camping, usually do the odd lane or two I didn't want the hassle of packing up and then setting up again every time I moved the car. That's why I'm going to get a ground tent.
Tuff-Trek do get a good write up so that's the one I'll be getting.
As for the roof bars I think they are rated at 75kg but would need to confirm. And I'm under the impression that is only for when you use them intransit.

I only have the TT awning, but quite impressed with it although with a couple of niggles around the side that fixes to the car, but to be honest this could be down to having mine on my trailer.
Don‘t have the TT RT, but on my 3rd RT and have slept 5 days max at any one time. Mine is currently on the trailer, but I did the last winter camp on top of the Disco with a Howling Moon RT, snow was on the ground, but it was lovely inside for just me and my 11 year old son. We have LED strips inside the tents and run these to a 12v socket in the back of the Disco or in my trailer.
The mattress in a Howling moon looks similar to TT and to be honest I‘ve never had any issues with lack of comfort sleeping on RT mattresses (Although most of the time it does involve wine/beer )
I currently have a twin size roof tent (2 double mattresses) and have had 4 of us in there at the same time
I use a prospeed roof rack, so it‘s always on the disco
Finally, with the 2m awning I think at least two or three people could also sleep in there, so I always carry some camp beds for unexpected visitorsIggy/Ieuan
