LRA and tin tent

Does LRA cover towing the tin tent?

Guessing it only covers the car and that an 8m caravan may be an issue

Therefore I'll need mayday or red pennant type cover

It does cover the tin tent in the fact that if the Disco breaks down the will recover both the car and van. However if a fault occurs with the van then no they will not help.

I have used Mayday for years now and can recommend them. I have only had recovery on cars with them though they do cover tin tents and trailers. Must be a standard 50mm ball hitch as the recovery trucks do not have nato type hitch. From memory they do cover caravans alone. Give them a ring, you will find them very helpful. I think from memory again red pennant is for travel abroad but tow car must be under 16 years. Again ring caravan club they will be most helpful.
Hope this helps

and LRA will only take you and the tintent to the nearest dealers, not home. I asked a few times for clarification on this. In the end with with Greenflag.

I looked into getting the AA to cover me abroad with my caravan and was told they would only cover vans up to 7m but couldn't clarify if that was overall length or body length. I have a Swift Conqueror 645 which measures 7m body but 7.99 overall. I have just renewed with Red Pennant which cost £171 for all year and up to 31 days at a time.
I could have covered for 45 or 66 days at a time for a higher premium and could have added health of the Wife and I also.I went for the driving side only at 31 days.

I went with the RAC through the Caravan and camping club, I haven't had to use it yet so can't comment. However I have used the RAC several times when I had a D2 !!! and they were always good.

After exploring the options Red Pennant seems the best in term so also catering for loss of accommodation (if Tin Tent is taken out of action for any reason)

Yes, but then if they cant fix your car they will give you another car to carry on with your journey and if you need one to tow they will do their best. I had a freelander in Scotland for the defender and it came with towbar.

They will then recover your car back to you, wherever you are either where you are staying or home and take the hire car back
