please help a disco virgin!!!
Good afternoon all,
Sorry for the long winded email but I have offically pulled out the last piece of my hair even though I didn't have much to begin with!
Why do disco's have to be so complaicted!
Basically I have just bought a 2005 3 series, I changed the brake pads on the front and now I have problems!
1) HDC FAULT SYSTEM NOT AVAIABLE
2) TRANSMISSION FAULT TRACTION REDUCED
BUT MORE IMPORTANTELY THE LOW BOX LIGHT ON THE DASH IS FLASHING CONTINOUSLEY,
I have tried to follow the instructions, engine running, neutral and then flick / hold down the switch and all happens! in fact on the switch both the high & low lights are flashing!
I have no idea if changing the brakes have caused this but any help would be fab!
On the dash I do have the symbol that stands for dsc - ???
also an ! in a circle with 2 ( ) around it
I did say I was a disco virgin
Thanks
Andy
Sounds to me like you may have damaged/disrupted an ABS sensor (or associated wiring) while changing the pads?Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

you have only got one low pad sensor that pulls out your abs sensors are held in place with a bolt so if you had one out before (abs sensor)then you would have had the fault before you changed the pads Discovery 3 se gone

If it is the ABS sensor/wiring, it would show up with a diagnostic tool - unless, of course, you can see any damage anyway. It may not be the cause though, but it would make sense.
(Won't be related to a pad sensor. )Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

It'll go in a sulk, light up like a christmas tree and go into limp mode if you put the wrong brake light bulbs in it!

The ABS sensors provides the wheel speed input to the gearbox, transfer box, HDC, TC, DSC etc, so if it is damaged it would produce the symptoms and restrictions you describe.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Quite possibly. The feedback from each of the wheels is key in determining the behaviour of the transmission and braking systems. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

guess what my next question is - where abouts is it& any ideas what it looks like??
It sits in the back of the steering knuckle (held in with a small screw) - connects behind the wheel arch liner.
