Intermittent Black smoke - not the main intercooler hose
This ones vexing me, normally after driving a while I get the symptoms of a split intercooler hose i.e. sluggish initial acceleration, cloud of black smoke out the back but as said it's intermittent. Yesterday I changed the main intercooler pipe for a new silicone one and I thought it had fixed the issue as drove it 10 miles this morning, no smoke, indeed it went for an MOT and passed with flying colours, a short journey of 4 Miles to the office and all clean. This afternoon after 6 or so miles it was OK then sluggish initial acceleration and black smoke
it'a had as said a new main pipe and 2 Years back an intercooler, BAS EGR blanking kit and Map sensor cleaned. I also did the turbo lever arm thing a couple of Years back but haven't checked that recently
No relavent fault codes present other than low circuit on EGR's which it's always had
Any pointers/ ideas gratefully receivedMark

Black smoke is over fuelling, white smoke burning engine oil. Possible MAF might have packed up?

Try replacing air filter as it could be collapsing starving it of air , or check the other inter cooler hose

Mine was doing this when I bought it. Previous owner had changed hoses. The fault was a crack in the intercoooler. Worth a look.

Tanglewood, you're right the Intercooler is split which is all the more frustrating as it was replaced just under 2 Years ago
I wonder do genuine parts have a 2 yr warranty?Mark

Parts warranty is 12 months but worth asking the dealer that fitted it. It should last longer than 2 years. They may have fitted it incorrectly and stressed a joint? Worth a poke. At least you know what the problem is.
