Alternator issue
Whilst driving on holiday the red charge light came on for 45 minutes with no dimming of headlights. Once engine switched off and left overnight no further sight of red charge light when started the next morning. Since the initial appearance of the light we have driven for a further 20 hours (to get home) with no further signs of the light.
Our local dealership has since put it on the computer which returned a fault code of 'alternator grounding'. If this fault code is correct I would have expected the alternator to have gone out in a big way.
Has anyone experienced this before?Geoff K

No, my battery light came on, stopped right away, I was planning on going out but decided against it,
Got Disco Mikey on the case, new alternator and battery ( that I got from Tayna, an Exide one )
And all seems happy again.
Well until the next failure I suppose D3 57 xs Stornaway grey

You will probably find that the alternator is still charging, albeit, at a much reduced rate.
Best get the multimeter out, and check the charge rate of the alternator My D3 Build Thread

alternator gone?
Fear that my alternator is passing out on us as well. 2008 HSE Auto with low mileage (with hindsight perhaps not the right combination). Red battery came up yesterday while driving, back at home at battery charge battery was almost flat. Fully loaded the battery, this morning had the following read out (via diagnostic menu in sat nav) with 11.5v @ idle / 12.5v @ circa 2200rpm.
What are your thoughts? Have booked appointment with dealer as it has repair insurance on it.D5 HSE TDV6 (gone but not forgotten)

Don't use the diagnostic voltage in the sat nav, it is no good - only use a real voltmeter.
But yes your alternator is suspect.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I think I might be having an issue with my alternator as well.
A couple of times recently the amber park brake light has flashed for a second. Radio goes off for at the same time for a second, as if switching station.
I also often have HDC off warning on start up, but always cranks quickly and starts quick, till last Friday when the battery was totally flat, but I had only done a few short trips, in cold weather and had been in and out of it all day with interior lights on and off constantly so whilst that was annoying and slightly dissapointing I wasn't overly concerned. But after several long runs this week it's done the brake light thing, so I'm suspecting there's more to it than just a tired(ish) battery.
I put my (Lidl) battery tester on this evening and it showed the battery to be in good condition 12.9 volts. But when I started the engine the alternator tester showed a poor charge.
Will check again tomorrow with Fluke Multi Meter and report back findings.
