Intermittent loss of power could it be the spare key

Our 05 disco auto has lost power twice in the last two days. It was SWMBO driving so I'm getting her version of events yesterday she said lost power briefly when she was going slowly round a bend and she had to pull in then it was okay again. Today it happened when she put the car into reverse and apparently there is no power so she put the car in drive and then back into reverse and then it was okay. Just thinking as a longshot we have been using a spare key that we haven't used for awhile (it was the original key but I repaired it with a kit from eBay) and the problem has only been happening since we been using the spare key so could it be a spare key that's causing The problem. Should be getting the original one back tonight anyway (one of her friends picked it up by mistake and took it home with her - great)

If not any ideas what could be going on thanks,t he EGR valves have been done by the way
Thanks

It's not slipping out of drive is it . The gear linkage can partially seize allowing the car to slip out of drive and cause what could be iterpretated as loss of power . Thumbs Up

Any chance this was more like a loss of drive rather than loss of engine power?

I say this as the conditions above are typical for a problem with the gearbox linkage. If so you have probably the easiest and cheapest fixes ahead of you.

Trouble is I haven't seen it for myself but she did say when I interrogated her that the car didn't rev up today when she put into reverse, yesterdays occurrence was more hazy so god knows what actually happened.

I may get the gear linkage checked out anyway because I've had gearbox slip a couple of time when going around corners but that was a couple of months ago and that hasn't happened since. Trouble is she has the radio on fairly loud so she probably wouldn't hear the revving up anyway. I haven't managed to repeat myself despite driving about 20 miles on it yesterday
