Motor Tax - you do not have a problem!!

I have read a lot of the posts concerning the increases in road tax in the UK. Please please please do not take this the wrong way but you ain't seen nothing yet. Here in Ireland we have it a lot worse. Motor Tax is calculated on Engine capacity. To clarify a TDV6 costs €1033 Shocked a year to tax!!! a V8 would be €1343 Whistle

This is in addition to the 21% VAT and 30% VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) we pay on new vehicles.

The best bit is that that Minister for Finance announced last year that in this years budget he will be recalculating all vehicle taxes in relation to emmissions. And everyone knows that taxes will not go down Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Here is our car tax table:

Heh, I posted in that thread with a bit of info on our system yb. Did a very quick estimated calculation that means that we need to drive approx 300,000 miles in our D3 to reach the point where we start being better off than someone in the UK, based on our cheaper diesel, though the age comes into it too - do I really want to be paying over 1k per year in tax when my d3 is 10+ years old?

BTW, sorry to go OT here, but would you be interested in a d3 meet here - I started a thread in the events forum last night if you are. I'm guessing you're in Youghal so it may not be the most convenient? Wink

Just renewed my tax online (after the site being down all weekend - obviously in no rush to get the cash!) and now I'm €1033 (£700) worse off than I was before. Big Cry

I wonder if this'll be the last year of cheap ( Laughing ) tax and now that the Greens are in government will we end up paying for it in the next year or two? Or, will passenger vehicles remain largely unchanged and they just bring the commercial road tax in line with what we're paying?

Can I ask what your fuel costs are per litre?

I know where you're going here, but anyway, according to the AA, the average price of diesel in June was €1.08 per litre - 73 pence. Petrol is currently around 10 cent dearer, so approx €1.18. They are usually pretty much the same in the winter months when demand for heating oil kicks in.

So anyway before you start saying how good we have it with fuel prices, remember the extra €25,000 over the UK price of a HSE that we have to pay in tax to get a UK SE spec D3 here (badged as HSE). Wink

You Irish don't have a problem either.

In the Netherlands, road tax for aV8 is €1404 and a TDV6 costs €2340 a year, based on weight and type of fuel.
This is in addition to the 19% VAT and 45% BPM (Luxury Tax) we pay on new vehicles. Big Cry

Prices for Diesel are more or less the same as in Ireland.

That Dutch system is a tough one! the weight of the D3 certainly would be going against it.

Got back from Grantown on Spey & thought 94.9p in Newport was cheap (100.9p up north). Just shows you how you get used to the pain. Off to Jolly Old France for a few days, hopefully cheaper there.

Ouch, didn't realise it was so bad in the Netherlands! Shocked What a good excuse for owning a V8 though!

I propose that all UK D3 owners should organise a celebration/party to celebrate how good the taxation system in the UK is. Smile

Diesel price is almost the same as Holland and Ireland.

If you're not in a big rush and depending what time /day but I find it's easy to nip off the autoroutes (a lot of big supermarkets are listed on MS Autorote) and fill up - gives you a break also
