Got one of these for my Dad for last Christmas.
They are great and do work well, however don't expect it to be a "show" item. Although it's very well detailed from a technical point of view, it does look rather plasticy up close and you wouldn't leave it out on the mantlepiece that's for sure.

Is the price good for what you get, bearing in mind the lightning deal may be a lot cheaper?Lord Discotres of Glencoe

I think I paid £19.99 last year and was very pleased with the value for money.
It's a really good kit and very enjoyable to build certainly and it's also very good quality hard plastic...but it's quite obviously plastic - that's the only fault with it.
You'll enjoy it all the way through the build and for a few days after, but then it'll probably hide in a cupboard until it goes in the bin.
Ideal for killing a few hours at Christmas for sure.

How much technical knowledge do you need, is it just like an airfix kit?Lord Discotres of Glencoe

It's exactly like an airfix kit, in fact it is an airfix kit just branded under Haines.
Just follow the instructions and it goes together fine.
