I Give Up!!

Well,

I have been trying to fathom out why it is stipulated that the distance from wheel centre to wheel arch is set to 'x' dimension when replacing wishbones etc, but when we take the car for 4 wheel alignment - the wheels are left dangling down when setting camber etc?

Now obviously I have been drinking far too much vino and my age is getting the better of me, as I am totally lost by these two differentials in logic!

So with this, I would be very grateful if someone with the relevant knowledge can enlighten me as to the reasoning, and subsequent reasoning why this same advice is not the same when the bolts are undone for setting the suspension up - as it basically undoes what we set up originally.

Yours in anticipation.

Jay

The wheels should be on the ground when setting the camber Confused

The reason for setting that height before tightening the bolts is to allow the bushes to rotate to the correct position before you clamp them - torquing them up when hanging 'free' will place excessive stress on the bushes on the road, leading to premature failure.

As Mikey said, the wheels should be on the ground (with the suspension set to 'Tight Tolerance') when setting the suspension angles.

Thanks guys,

Bit more clearer - not actually watched them physically do the camber alignment, only know it was done on Hunter machine due to printouts supplied, so camber bit makes sense DM thank you.
