Problems starting up and lack of power |
|
Hi All
I am looking for some help with an issue I had at the weekend.
I started my 2007 Disco 3 up early on Saturday morning and being in a rush and being stressed I just turned the key to start up without waiting for the glow plug light to go out. Usually it goes out pretty much straight away.
The car didn't start and it just chocked on itself. I turned if off and then waited for the light to go off and again it didn't start. It took a couple of attempts to start but the engine fault light stayed on.
The engine fault light doesn't come on now once the car has started, on turning the ignition on I am not getting any “bongâ€. The battery light doesn't go off until the car has fully started up, I can’t remember if it did this before.
This morning I started the car up, I waited for the glow plug light to go out. It took a couple of more seconds to go out that it usually does but it started first time. I drove off straight away without waiting for the engine to warm up and for the first 50 meters, I had no power, I was moving but I couldn't accelerate. I just turned around and took it back home and took the other the car.
Any one advise what the issue is?

Sounds as though you have an EGR problem, which might explain your lack of power.
It's that time of year when it's definitely worth checking your battery and alternator to see if they are also contributing to your problems.
Another possibility is lack of fuel pressure and failing glow-plugs.
Good luck.

Gets my vote - been there (and my EGR's are blanked off), patience is the word I'm afraid.
