Cooling Fan Cycling Even When Cold.

Last night I noticed a weird fault, (I assume it's a fault?)
I decided to test the FBH as the outside temperature had dropped to 4°C.
I started the engine and as normal the cooling fan runs for a few seconds before just free wheeling.
I popped the bonnet to help me hear the FBH running as it wasn't obviously running looking at its exhaust.
I left the engine running while checking the FBH. I noticed that fan started to roar. It did this for around 15 seconds before slowing to free wheel again. A minute later the fan started to roar again for another 15 seconds. This cycle was repeated until I turned the engine off again. The FBH was working well and burning cleanly. The cooling fan appears to be trying to cool down a cold engine. Is this normal?
Any help would be appreciated. Freelander SE 2005 Auto.
D3 TDV6. Gone.

Isn't that just the normal 'roaring/whooshing' noise you should expect from a cold start? IE, viscous fan. A shapely pair of legs is one thing but a nice bum is not to be sniffed at.

Yes it's normal, if left idling the fan will cut in and out. No idea why though.
