12S Socket Charging and Split Charge System - Opinions? |
|
Completed my 12S Plug/Aldi Charger combo this weekend and tried it out last night. All seems fine, it happily delivers a steady trickle. What I noticed though is that every so often (every few minutes) the voltage would peak high enough to engage the split charge solenoid via the T-Max system (~12.8v) and so effectively the charger would be trickling both batteries at once (my aux battery is an Oddessey PC1230). After a minute or so, I assume the current draw pulls the voltage down and it disengages. It must be right on the boundary.
The question is, apart from the solenoid clicking on and off occassionally throughout the evening, is there really any problem? I'm conscious of the drain if, say, the aux battery were dead - in that it would draw down the starter, but from a charging perspective, if both are full and this is just topping up/trickling, it wouldn't cause any long term battery damage would it?
Grateful for any advice.
