"To gain access to the vehicle in the first place, thieves can block the locking signal from the fob (using local Wi-Fi hot spots) thus fooling the owner into thinking the vehicle has been locked".

So they still need access to the vehicle.
And my folding wing mirrors confirm to me that my D4 is locked.

Good point ........ however, do they not gain the access code from your fob .......... so they can download it onto their computer and then open the car at their liesure .........????

Aside from that ....... apparantly the diagnostic port is the real vulnerability ....... so I assume if neccessary a window can be broken to gain entry to gain access to the port.

I got keyless entry as a 'free gift' - i.e. not on the build.

My way around this is to
1. not use the fob - use the door handle sensors to lock - therefore no RF signal for be blocked or cloned
2. Double lock the car - so that it beeps when it is locked.

And after that it has a fob recognising tracker so that the can can be monitored from elsewhere.

Finally, live far away from the core car theft areas.......

Thumbs Up

I used visionairegps by carrotech. it's a web based tracker so you can log in and see where your car is 24/7. Russell Carter is the chap to talk to. very helpful and the system is easy to use. highly recommend it Thumbs Up

I have seen this in action ... but I have limited knowledge ... my understanding is ....

The kit they use blocks the signal that locks the car ... that's all it does ... so the car obviously doesn't then lock ... Whistle

Generally a thief uses it to get at the 'contents' of the vehicle ......

On the LR the three flashes gives it away when locked just look to ensure you see it locking ... Very Happy

Without the key it can't be moved (well driven away) LR will not even let you have a key without the V5 and other ID Rolling Eyes

To remove them/nicked it has to be lifted away on a tow truck without a key Shocked

Never leave your key and vehicle with someone you don't know as that is the only way the diagnostic port can be 'fiddled with' ....

There a few threads on here so utilise the search option for some peace of mind .... Thumbs Up

A useful recent thread....READ THE FULL THREAD THOUGH Wink

The main points of the thread -

1) a brick can get access quicker
2) the original key is needed to drive it away ... hence don't give your keys away to others lightly so they can clone the key !!

Hope this helps and re assures you a bit ...
