The DVDs have the same warning on them, don't know why they're making such a fuss about the warnings. It's just saying, things were different when these were made.Skoda 120 - sold

The Savillism was a very much more private thing, thus it doesn't turn up in mainstream media at any point. Race issues have been there for years, it's known history. If anything Tom and Jerry cartoons are a historical record that should be preserved as is. History shouldn't be obscured by modern up to date ways.Skoda 120 - sold

well this post has really torn my loyalties as i like so many loved T&J and all the other classic cartoons as a kid ,but i do think that TV
can enforce many stereotypes and influence people perceptions without you realizing it.
i also think that the modern PC game violence is doing the same job to our current generation and this should also be more strongly policed.
being from the "love thy neighbour and are you being served tv era " it took me a long time to realize that id absorbed a lot of negative influences and this effected my preconceptions about ethnic minorities homosexuals etc
I still have difficulties being open minded on the above subjects but as ive got older realised that you need to be more tolerant and open minded if you want to progress as a society and try to avoid negative influences.
so although this seems overkill i cant disagree with the labeling ( ow god ive agreed with DG )MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

They are racial stereotypes, they were correct at the time - many maids of well to do Americans were black.
So what?
I believe bringing up the subject and discussing it is healthy and when kids are an appropriate age it should be discussed as part of teaching history and the rights and wrongs society has dealt with over time.
I'm not sure it needs a warning on a cartoon as the cultural relevance from a historical standpoint isn't being considered when you're a four year old cheering on a mouse being chased by a cat.
If Jerry "blacks" himself up then the kids just see him painting his face and being silly.

I remember sending off jar tops and getting a few of the badges when I was still in single figures - not sure they make these anymore
I do agree a little though, these cartoons etc were right for the time, and times have now moved on - I rember the maid in T&J and unfortunately they did over emphasise some of her characteristics, that may have been fine then, but not in today's worldIggy/Ieuan
