ronp's style guide

Ok, from various images lurking around this forum I can see that dress code has got a bit sloppy over my sabbatical year (and I really do question how Martin and the mods have tolerated this)!
Come on chaps you drive a Land Rover D3 or D4 and you need to dress with a bit more respect to the brand.
So just for starters I've compiled a list.
Now I'm not telling you 'what to wear' just some tips on 'what not to wear', so I'm sure you'll have enough clothes left in your wardrobe to comply.

Track suits (they're for slobs - yes, even on a Sunday morn)
Lumberjack shirts (though small check are acceptable)
Anything with camouflage in it (unless worn on HM force duties)
Short sleeved shirts (especially dress shirts - and definitely not with a tie)
Anything with 'Adidas' stripes up the legs and/or arms.
Training shoes (unless your actively training)
Sports wear of any type/sort - yes, that includes golf (unless indulging in given sport)
Shooting wear (unless you're shooting some defenceless little animal - but it's not really clever!)
Anything with the colour pink on a man (though half acceptable if your a cross dresser)
Anything with a Pringle, Burberry or Damart label (and includes ALL sports labels)
Pyjamas (unless you're hospitalised)
Gold chains ( it's so 80's - sorry Geoff)
Moustaches (especially on ladies)
Comb-overs, curly hair, gingers (unless your Scottish), long hair (c'mon your not a woman anymore)
Surf style bracelets & necklaces on anyone who doesn't surf
Rapper 'upright front' skip caps
Cardigans ( or any woollen wear with a zip or buttons up the front)
Jerkins ( unless on a burger - oh, that's gherkins.)
Anything with a hood on it (unless it's an outdoor jacket.)
Woman's clothes (c'mon, the clue is in the title, they're not meant for you)
Onesies (what were you thinking about!)
Suspenders (absolutely fine on a sexy woman - but not for holding up your ankle socks)
Fig leafs ( they're so last BC - unless on your fine lady)
Bare tops (unless your lying on a beach, but not down the High street or Tescos - obviously no restrictions apply to women)

If you own any of the above, repent now and do the honourable thing by using this list to clear out your wardrobe and give to charity.
But word of warning: ensure that your chosen charity does not ship out to Eastern European countries, as they'll only find their way back to the UK on the backs of undesirables.

Anyway, this is all I can think about through breakfast, I'll add to the list as I start to wake up, though do feel free to add your own - but warning, it must not conflict with my views.

btw, you don't need to thank me, I'm just doing what needs to be done to get you all back to being respectable Land Rover D3 & D4 drivers.

[oh and yes, I compiled this, it's not a cut n paste job from tinternet.] Wink

ron ...you do have high standards I must say ...you are the only man I have ever known to turn up to a disco3\4 event wearing a suit Laughing

And keep said suit on on the bar. Whistle

Only "offence" in the above list is training shoes. Always in the gym but occasionally in the house if feet are a bit chilly. Sad

Luckily jeans & t-shirt not in the above list. Thumbs Up

Christ, I appear to pass Ron's standards without even trying.

I am kind of worried that I am now a stereotypical Discovery owner!

I might be in luck with this thread as I may just reach the desired standard to pass muster.

I know this as on Friday evening I was complimented on the fit and look of my waistcoat (Cordings of Piccadilly) whilst shopping in Sainsbury's (and the person didn't even have a guide dog) so fingers crossed I am suitably attired to both own a D4 and visit this fine forum.

I would have to take issue with the colour pink, however, as I like pink shirts, so may yet fall foul of your dress code.

Your expectantly
 Andy

Ron, is it OK to wear faded jeans with a couple of rips in (on the legs nothing vulgar!). I'm in my early 40s & should really chuck them out but they still have a bit of life left & as a Yorkshireman this conflicts with my opinions on waste!

My only offence would appear to be a few hoodies!

And I can assure you all, I don't own a tracksuit Laughing

Ok, a few points raised that need answering:
Suits - they are de rigueur, of course.
Trainers - try out a nice 'approach' shoe instead.
Gimp suits - a def NO, I didn't even mention as they're way off the radar (just as mankinis are).
Pink shirts - ok for short term memorial only (ie I wore one to Silverstone in memory of a John a Button) but time will pass, so get over it.
Jeans- absolutely fine but subject to a few rules: as long as you don't show your pants, don't wear them too tight if you're old or got a beer gut (even worse if both), and don't wear them like Jeremy Clarkson.

Anyway, smoking jacket off, need to put on the suit as there's grass to be mowed.

Glad to see cravats didn't make the list.....I'm hoping they make a comeback,as I have mine on at the moment, to set off the silk-robe ensemble I'm currently sporting......along with swagger sticks, and monocles, they're desperately underrated nowadays.

Euan, you're absolutely fine with that dear chap.

I'm glad to say I am 99.9% compliant with RonP's standards.

I would add any clothing whatsoever bearing the maker's name or logo.

My only non-compliance is "Pink" - there are certain circumstances when one must wear pink:-

but I must confess my hunting days are over, and have been for many years.
