replacing the rocker covers

Hi everyone and thanks for having me on here. I have just started working on a disco3 tdv6 which has smoking problems. The EGR valves where blanked a few weeks after the smoking occurred. Once blanked it still smokes a lot! I took the engine cover off to find holes in both rocker covers and the throttle housing. I know this was caused by the EGR's being stuck open.

I am replacing both rocker covers as seeing inside they are caked and rough as hell where they have melted.

Is it easy enough to change the rocker covers without taking the body off as I'll have no lift?

Do you think this will cure the smoking? Or does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks to all for help and advice.

Great forum!

Fiddly job, but easy enough.

injectors out, fuel rails/pipes off, leak off pipe off, wiring can be a tight squeeze. One side needs the front cambelt cover undone, as there are 3 bolts hiding underneath it

Thanks Mikey for the reply! Hoping this will clear the smoking problems. Not the nicest job as everything is caked in soot and oil. About too see land rover for the parts and am not looking forward to the bill!
