What fuel consumption should i expect?

Hi
I've had my disco 3 HSE now for a few month and i'm getting 20.7 MPG no matter what style of driving I'm doing. Just wondered if you think i should be getting more? If so is there anything i can check/do to increase my MPG. Any input will be appreciated.
Cheers

that does sound a little low, maybe 4 or 5, is that an actual or indicated, is it mostly town driving, what type of tyres?

Obvious things first, check tyre pressures, is your gauge correct, is a caliper/handbrake binding (check to see if any wheel is warmer/hotter than rest after a drive), how long since a service, is it due?

First of all, tyre pressures. If they're too low they'll increase drag.

Otherwise, binding brakes or EPB maybe.

EDIT: Beaten to it Mr. Green

what style of driving are you actually doing ?

round town, or motorways.

average around town and the odd dual carriageway then 20mpg (auto) is probably about right

on motorways at 70 ish you should get high 20's

That what it says on my display and I've worked it out roughly to the same. My tyres are getting low on tread so just ordered some new general GT which are getting fitted in the morning. Ive been checking the tyre pressures weekly as i thought may help. All my wheels spin free as I've had it on a ramp and checked over when i got it. It is getting ready for a service in the next month or so. Ive been on long motorway runs and the normal running around.
Thanks for your replys

Have you blanked the egr's?

You can get a service kit from site sponser "Advanced factors".
That will have every filter and the oil you need.

Could be 2-3 mpg of difference.

The air filter should be done every year. Not 3 as LR say.
AF's service kit is so well priced I change all the filters every year.

Otherwise, check all the brakes aren't jamming and the epb is working correctly.

Bear in mind that mid 20s is usually the norm for them unless it covers loads of motorway miles.

Got 35mpg from the Disco coming down to Brighton from Hinckley this morning.

The last full tank - which covered from filling up down here (with Sainsburys cheapest), then a few town miles down here (maybe 40 miles), Trip home - in hideous traffic then Saturday we had a day out - went to John Craddocks, then on to Ironbridge then up to Llangollen and up the Horseshoe pass, cup of tea then back home - all on A roads not motorways... Still did 33mpg (based on the amount of fuel it took to fill it - display said 32.6. Really impressed with the fuel consumption of the thing.

I had 4 General GT's and really been impressed by them, I was getting about 22 towing my 1600kg tin tent about and normally get about 23-24 round town and 30-32 on motorway type runs.....I can knock a good couple off that if the wife is driving!!! Laughing

Had the EGRs blanked and going by the av. fuel consumption indicator (only) I saw over 31mpg instead of 27mpg.

However I had (unknown to me) at the time I had EGR faults/ errors anyway prior to blanking.

Also I found, the car pulled away better afterwards.

Is there any long term affects that come from blanking the egr off?
What sort of job is it to do and what do i need?[/quote]

No effects blanking the EGRs. Easy job to do yourself.

Your mpg is very low: I've now done 155k in my manual S and averaged 26.6mpg in my old bus using both supermarket and branded fuel. My driving is mixed and also involves towing. It also has a remap, deCat, Allisport intercooler and blanked EGRs as well as a Hannibal expo rack permanently attached so its always going to be thirsty. Big Cry

Yep, it's an expensive hobby trying to squeeze an mpg or two out of the D3. Still it keeps us off the streets. Thumbs Up
