If you mean you want to retrofit the rear e-diff, then I believe it has been done but is not an easy task.

If you mean aftermarket, ARB does lockers for the D3, I believe the front one has been around for a while now but the rear one is pretty new (if released). They're not very popular though, hence the lack of info about them.

Thanks for the reactions

I really don't know if it is useful, but when we went offloading in marquenterre, the cars with difflock went further than those without, so that is why i would install it. i know the car has already ability's but before the disco 3 i had a defender with diff locs and i think i went further in the terrain.

greating

The brakes act as a diff-lock, so I don't think a proper one would necessarily get you any benefit, other than the brakes won't wear out Laughing

I agree with the above. Defenders had a huge advantage with difflocks because of the lack of Traction Control systems.

The advantage of difflocks on the D3 is not so pronounced as the Traction Control fakes it to a certain extent. Unless you're doing pretty extreme stuff quite regularly I don't think the investment in diff locks will be worth it.

Has anyone seen a D3 with a locking rear diff go anywhere that a D3 without one could not go?

I've never seen or heard of this scenario yet. Certainly the locking rear diff does make things smoother and more refined, but I not particularly convinced that it adds raw capability. Driver experience, tyres, clearance and a bit of luck play more prominent roles.

Agreed, never seen one do any more than a standard D3 can do. Deffo not needed for the Pyrenees, 95% of the tracks can be done by a Ford Fiesta and the D3 can chew up & spit out the other 5%. Re driving on sand, tyres (type & pressures) and driving technique are far more important.

You know the D3 has a centre difflock don't you Koen?

Agree with Del, when we were out in the Pyrenees we were up in the hills in low range off road height and a sheep farmer came bombing down the track in a saxo 1.0 Rolling with laughter

The one vehicle with a locking rear diff (D4) last year made a right hash of a rock climb in the Pyrenees last year - took him three or four goes to get up - rest of us did it in one go Rolling with laughter

For every one many thanks for the comments.
I do not have a lot of experience in offroading, i still have a very old suzuki with diff locks and on that vehicle it makes a big difference, that why i tought to install it also on my disco 3. Its an S version without air suspension.
I do find it a bit disturbing when the brakes come in while taking a sand hill, so i tough to avoid this with diff loss, but now i see it is not needed.

My 2006 V8 has rear difflock as standard. I was glad I had it when we were slowing down in very deep sand near Chobe reserve - centre difflock came on but it needed rear as well to maintain forward speed and get out of a very difficult spot. If traction control was what I had to rely on in deep sand, I would still be there! ( no winch ) Embarassed

Hello koendisco
I have exactly the same d3 than yours
In the Pyrénées you will find less sand than in marquenterre...
I have done hard sand in morocco and i don't think a diff lock is needed
