I have to say, following months of both trepidation and anticipation it was actually a fun couple of hours and I kind of wish it had lasted a little longer! 
I could not for the life of me get the butterfly spindle to budge so opted to fix the butterfly open and leave the actuator disconnected from the spindle instead. All good. 
The only drama was when my not so trusty WD40 paperweight failed and my printed copy of the how-to guide decided to make a run for it down the road!
Anyone contemplating this - it is not a daunting job in reality, just be sure to use a big spanner for a paperweight and not a half empty can of WD.
