Had the disco jacked up today to adjust the epb, that went well thanks to the info from here I am looking to change the auto gearbox oil and the sump to the metal type so I had a look round while I could to see what I needed to do. I know the access is poor but do I need to jack up the gearbox and remove the crossmember with the rear gearbox mount on it to change the sump? Thanks.

I changed mine about a week ago, you will need to remove the through bolt the jack the gearbox up slightly to get to the bolts.
The through bolt is the one at the back of the gearbox, the bracket is on the cross member.
When you undo all of the bolts for the old sump filter, you can just break the pipe that sticks up into the gearbox. I personally gave it some assistance with a hacksaw to make the breaking a bit easier.
The access for the bolts is a bit easier with the metal pan because the bolts are shorter.
I would advise recapping each of the bolt holes in the gearbox housing before you put the new pan on, as it makes refitting a hell of a lot easier.
There is a guide to the sequence that you should do in the bolts when refitting. I'll dig it out and post it on. Lee

Cheers Comusat, thanks for the info. I am going to order the bits from Advanced Factors and have a go in a couple of weeks.

Changed the gearbox sump today, no real issues. Drained the oil, very dirty, then re-filled, run engine for a bit and then drained again to flush it, then changed the sump for the ZF metal sump & filter. Managed to get to all the bolts with the aid of a Sealy ratchet bit driver, this is nice and small and made things much easier. Used 10 litres of oil in total for the flush and fill. 8)
