Driveshafts (Manual / Auto) Questions
HI,
I have a clicking CV joint on the O/S front of my Disco and was wondering if someone could please tell me if there are any differences between the shaft on a manual and an auto.
Can anyone tell me how many splines there are on the CV Joint shaft that goes through the hub?10 D4 Bali Blue

Having just spent the best part of a day putting new boots on I highly recommend just buying the entire shaft. Much much easier. N faffing with cv joints, a tonne of lint free cloths, 2 different types of grease and those special clamp pliers that need the assistance of a vice to wok. Getting the old drive shaft out is the only prob. Don't pull on it. Use a lever between the diff case and the coupler unit and it should pop out. By the time you've bought a new cv joint and boot kit (assuming you are doing the inner whilst u r there it's much easier to not bother and just put me shaft in. Not much more cost and a big time saver.

Changing the whole shaft was my choice too. In past experience of replacing them on my VW Passat, I couldn't get them off the shaft (took to my tyre chap who smirked as I told him; well that was soon wiped off his face... ) so I didn't want to bother with any potential hassle this time. Auto and manual may be the same but it looks like they can be different from a 2005 model to the 2007 model so be carefull if you a getting one from the scrappy. Although if you are handy you can regig them around to make them work. Make one good 1 from 2 bad ones.
