Mounting trial bike on discovery 3 de-teachable towbar

Hello All

I have a trial bike and a rack that fitted to my old cars flange type towbar. http://www.davecooper.co.uk/motorbike_racks.asp

I am looking for a solution to fit this to the disco without having to fit a fixed towbar as I dont use it enough to warrant one.

What is the vertical weight limit for a detachable towbar ? Has anyone used one of the quick release american type kits with the 2" x 2" adaptor ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121235413571?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

Any guidance is appreciated.

Cheers

Thomas

I might be miles wrong but am guessing it should be the same as the nose weight of a trailer/caravan.
Just my assumption as the main weight pushes down on the towbar, fixed or removable
I think about 150 kg
No doubt someone with a LOT more knowledge than me will be along soon to correct this

Happy trialing

Thumbs Up

Thanks for that

The bike and rack only weigh about 75 kg so don't see it being a problem.

Just getting the right kit to fit the rack too might be a challenge.

Hello

Did you weld a flange plate onto a detachable swan neck style towbar or can you buy a detachable unit with a flange plate on it?

Just get a tow hitch reciever to plug in instead of the towball, and you can slot thatever you like into it. TLO can get you a new one.

That's what I have done so I can change between drop plates with a tow ball, and a NATO tow hitch on......wouldn't imagine a 50x50 square section with a relevant bike adapter would be any different as long as the rear cross member is in good condition and the receiver pin is fine.....

Thanks for the info

Think im going down the route of the tow hitch receiver.

Navigator where did you get the adjustable height plate that slots into the receiver?
