Engine replacement company's ??
Hello everyone ,
I'm new to the forum and own a Tdv6 with 120k on the clock
It's a 2006 model and has full service history. And had cam belt and last service 2months ago by a specialist.
And now
The inevitable has happened and it's knocking like a gooden.
Still starts up and runs but sounds like a tank !!
I have my own workshop but don't have the facility's / time to remove the engine and replace my self.
Is there any company's in the south that do replacements and fitting ? Price ?
I've found a place called global engines in barking Essex offering a recon engine fitted with 6month warranty for £ 3295 but heard mixed reviews about them
Any help would be greatly appreciated before I split with my hard earned !
Many thanks
Lee from West Sussex

Just searched and read a few topics. I'll do more looking around but just can't find anywhere that offers what I need. Them guys are the only ones that pop up on eBay , Google etc.
What does your "specialist" have to say? Is he able to fit another engine for you, or have you lost confidence?
I think it might be sensible to consider sourcing a s/h engine, probably Jaguar.
There are threads here on just this topic.
Who to do the work if your specialist can't? Worth talking to Geoff. (note the full stop), or possibly Mark West of West 4x4.
Good luck - keep us posted.

The specialist give me a price that was well out of range. To the point I was going to sell it as salvage !
I've found through a friend a guy that is willing to remove my engine which is good news ! It's getting started on Saturday, once it's out were strip the sump off etc and see what the damage is , and whether it's worth re building the bottom end or making into a table for the man cave. !
Thanks for your input guys

The engine is out
Removed the sump and found loads of the needles from a needle bearing in there ???
Any one have an idea of where these would have come from ???
Looks like the re build is out the question now and a call to Eurojag is on the cards.

Hi Lee, The needles will be from one of the cam followers, i also found some in the sump, the engine was showing low oil pressure. They are easy enough to get to if you remove the cam cover you will likely see which one / ones have broken. I seem to recall around 18 needles in a complete bearing. I had 10 in the sump and 3 in the ladder frame part of the sump and the rest still missing.
I have opted for S/H jag engine
You maybe luckier

Ok I'll have a look tommorow. Thanks for the advice !!
Would these making there way to the sump have taken out the bottom end ? It's was knocking / chugging but still ran and didn't seize ?

Mine had broken due to cam belt failure, piston must have hit valve, valve broke cam follower, three were knackered but just one snapped and needles awol. So not the same as yours ref bottom end, maybe a previous issue and repaired before.

Can you confirm where these needle roller bearing parts are. The cam follows do not appear to have bearings, they are flat pieces of metal which rest between valve and lash adjuster. My engine is making some high pitch rattling noises and am concerned if cam/followers etc are falling apart and more importantly if needle roller bearing are breaking up, I need to locate where they are.

Some pics of the cam followers - first pic is the broken one which shed the needles second is how i found two others and third is a good one. The roller bearing is in the middle of teh arm and contacts the cam lobes
Fourth pic shows 4th faulty one i found with a split where the hydraulic tappit locates
Mine was cam belt snapping damage and even when all repaired with s/h head still no oil pressure when warn - so went down the S/H jag engine route
Good luck
mines still ongoing and a work in progress due to time issues

Thanks for that - the pictures paint a much better picture. I am thinking that the high pitch chatter noiuse I am getting on 1 bank is a follower falling apart. I have a spare "spares" engine but could not see clearly how the followers are. I suppose that if a follower bearing falls apart, it would cause a gap that under working conditions would make a tap tap noise. Better take the sump off to have a look!!!
Once again thanks for clarifying.
