D3 in limp mode, now won't start |
|
Hi folks,
I had a friend phone me today to ask for a bit of help and advice on this forum.
he was coming home on Saturday night, and his D3 went into limp mode. he pulled in, switched it off, restarted and it cleared itself and he started driving only for it to happen again. done the same thing again, it cleared itself and he got home.
he went to check yesterday on fuel filter etc. and everything seemed fine, but on trying to restart his D3, the normal 'priming' sound you hear couldn't be heard.
following a couple of phone calls to BLRC (local LR specialists) and speaking to a mechanic, it appears that there is a pump in the fuel tank which may need replaced.
only thing is to replace it he need to either get it to them, or he can drop the tank out himself (he is very mechanically minded) over his pit in his own garage.
only problem is the disco is in park, and without being able to start it he cannot get it into neutral.
so firstly, has anyone ever had a similar experience to this, and secondly, how do you get a parked LR into neutral to push it over his tarmac into his garage?
many thanks
Ross

HI Ross,
There is a release on the auto selector that allows it to be moved into neutral
Can't put my finger on it at the mo but will have a search
Here it is....

Where the park brake is, remove the small plastic cover behind the switch.
Put your finger in and point it towards the D of drive. There is a small plastic thing that you need to push up and you can then move the drive out of Park. Cheers Ian

on top of the engine there is a schraeder valve like a car wheels, undo cap and press in slightly while someone turns ignition on.fuel should be flowing slowly so catch with a rag.no flow and its a drop the tank job.pattern part can be fitted for £30 off a peuguot 2.0.fleabay

You guys are a great help, thank you very much. I'll pass this information into him so hopefully he can get it sorted.
He was quoted £450 for the pump IIRC
thanks again
