Full system shutdown.... Wont start

Hope someone can help me.

I decided to change the auto transmission oil this weekend. Prior to changing the oil I decided to check the rear arm bushes. I jacked the rear of the vehicle bushes seemed ok so proceeded with the auto oil change.

I raised the car with the air suspension. Changed the oil. Plugged in my iidtool so I could keep an eye on auto temp and that's when the radio and instrument cluster displayed "Full System Shutdown"

Im now left with an immobilized car. When I try to start the car the hazards flash and the central locking cycles.

I have tried a known good battery and also a hard reset.

Any advice on how I can resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

The only other thing I did which surely wouldnt cause the issue is fold the door mirror in to prevent it hitting on a wall

CAN-BUS issue

Thanks Disco_Mikey

I will double check all the connections. It does appear the auto transmission has been removed in its past at somepoint.

Your thoughts on the iidtool having any part in the fault im seeing ?

I have seen diagnostic tools loose comms, causing CAN-BUS issues, but they normally clear with an ignition off-on cycle

Doubt it is anything to do with the IID, and is just sheer coincidence

Thanks just went and had a look at connections where ive been and all good.

When I try to crank the engine the hazards flash and the hand break light flashes.

Its almost like the car thinks its been in a crash or something.

Night time here in Australia so may have to start further checking the wiring in the morning.

If it were me, I might try and disconnect the battery terminals, press brake pedal, re-connect the battery. Hook up IIDTool, clear faults, and then see what happens? Never had your experience, and am eager to hear what sorts it out.
Good luck Thumbs Up

Quick update.

Ive only owned the car for a few weeks so I am putting the issue down to coincidence at the moment.
as im guessing this was more than likely experienced by the previous owner.

The Disco is still dead and in a way im glad it is just so that I can nut out the problem.

I have noticed that the temp guage on the cluster reads half even with the battery disconnected and im pretty sure a failed instrument cluster could cause the isssues im experiencing. If anyone could elaborate on why it may be reading half that would be appreciated.

Anyways for those who are interested I will keep this updated as to hopefully help someone else in the future.

Regards

Brian

Hey Matty,

My initial thoughts were the same but I have tried a known good battery and experience the same issue.

Fixed-
Thanks to the excellent support from Gap-diagnostics this issue is now resolved.

Partly my fault not following instructions to the letter.

I plugged my iidtool in prior to turning on the ignition and this subsequently bricked my instrument cluster.

With the help of Christian at Gap I was able to reprogram the Cluster by turning the ignition on and plugging in tool and leaving for approx 5 minutes. Led on tool will flash whilst reprogramming.

I believe a future update from Gap will resolve this issue.

Have to say that was the quickest response to a support request I have ever received.

Who would have thought having the IID Tool connected whilst turning the ignition on would be so dramatic?

I've cycled ignitions with diagnostic tools connected many times before with no ill effects. In fact for some diagnostics you have to do just that.

Weird and very undesirable.

Tbh this one threw me a bit.

Ive been a mechanic for 15 years mainly working on Mercedes but had a stint with LR.

Seeing as ive only owned the car such a short time I instantly thought it was a fault that the previous owner knew about hence the cheap price of the vehicle.

Oh well least I know my Canbus wiring is sound as I must of checked every part of the canbus at the weekend.

Main thing is its fixed.

Iidtool still great value for money IMO
