[Wanted] Runabout cheap insurance car

Need a 'third car' for the various children between myself and partner to use.

Main point of interest will be low insurance category as key factor. What make/model/colour, etc. all come below that.

Budget up to circa £3.5k but can go more if needs be for 'right car'.

Currently looking for Peugeot 107/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo (had a Pug' 107, cracking car, £20 tax, 55mpg real world economy and peanuts to run - best 'first car' out there IMO), others of interest are Fiat Panda/500, Vauxhall Corsa, Skoda Fabia, etc. All group 4 or lower (on latest 50 car system).

Anyone got one to sell?

A bit bigger than what your after but much cheaper and only insurance group 8...

I have a Citroen Xantia 1.9td Desire.
Real world it gets 45mpg+
183k currently on it and will come with a fresh ticket with the following work being done for the MOT.

Rusty door jamb removed, new section cut and welded in and painted up
New ABS sensor fitted to rear
New wipers fitted at the front.
New battery & + connector fitted

Its also having the rear spoiler removed and filled in and some corrosion removed and a new section cut in.

The mileage is high but the engines as i've said are very strong units. They do also run on almost anything you through at them and from a mechanics perspective are simple to work on, a cambelt takes an hours labour at any decent garage for example as there is plenty of space to work around the engine in the engine bay.

It benefits with having Climate control and a full leather interior and alloy wheels. Not exactly a tiny first car to have but they take knocks and scrapes with ease and are cheap to run. I learned to drive in one and not long after passing my test ran one as a daily along side my Renaults at the time Smile

It will also likely get some new tyres fitted and the bodywork a good going over to bring it right upto scratch.

Only asking £800 for it as the tax only has a few months left on.

Pics here if your interested

(note it shows it as it was before the work began with the rusty door jamb and the dodgey + connector).

I have just sold a Fabia 1.4 16v 2002 for £470 but it was a bit rough and a few things didnt work on it very well so was happy to sell it to a local garage who wanted to fix it up mostly and use it as a courtesy car!

TBH if you really need a tiny car then the 107's are the better value for money at the moment Smile

Too big, too expensive to insure. Id be going 'old banger' route if insurance wasn't such a big thing but 2 of them wouldn't drive one of them (wusses).

The cars I mention we're looking at something like £1600 still for a newly qualified learner, my son at 18with one years NCB is still at £1600 or so on a group 8 car and he paid £2600 on a group 5 car as a 17 year old newly qualified driver.

Really does need to be down in the group 3-5 range but thanks anyway

No worries, I'll keep my eyes open but my stuff tends to be under £1k anyway and cars in that size band tend to show a lot more wear and tear Sad

This would be a good bet. Again a very strong engine, easy to work on and youd be unlucky to see under 55mpg out of it and easily capable of 70+ and if driven very carefully 100.....
