What did he say about the gearbox? Haven't some people required a new gearbox as well?

he said a T/C would have to be real bad to take a gearbox with it, mine drives perfect with a tiny rumble and a very little hunting of revs dont want it to get worse, gearboxes have their own wear issues, i think its a real good price, but dont know prices elsewhere
are they doing anything to remove the debris from the GB?Pete

He is correct when he says gearboxes have their own issues and whist it is a fair price it is in fact the gearbox that has caused the TC to fail . The TC locks up by hydraulic pressure, if the pressure is reduced the TC does not lock up and slips causing wear, distortion and judder, fit a new TC without curing the main fault and like many on here in 5/10k miles you will need another TC and the main fault which now may have developed into a recon gearbox.
The main cause of of low oil pressure to the TC is wear on the GB input shaft bush, this results in wearing the oil seal which results in low oil pressure.
For the sake of a few more pounds in comparison it is essential to have the shaft bushes and seals done at the same time, to the degree that any auto gearbox specialist of repute will not fit a TC alone with a warranty without doing the bushes.
Many members on the site are full of praise for a wonder product called Dr Tranny as it stops judder instantly and it does, it makes the TC lock up and helps economy, but it doesn't actually cure the problem, all that it does do is make the rubber oil seals swell and so increase the oil pressure, this is fine in short term moderation but exceed the dose at your peril. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Recon TC is around £350/450, then you have the extras, sump and filter, oil? VAT? And the biggy labour, it is not a job for the faint hearted it is an awkward That's why I recomend while it is stripped down do it once properly It can when others can't,

I had my TC replaced after the plates were contaminated by a leak from the auto cooler. As far as I know the Autobox was not compromised. But time will tell. The TC was replaced over 50k miles ago and since then I have done a drain and refill (partial) of the auto fluid every 20k miles.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Around £2-2.5k seems to be the going rate, takes around two days to complete, as said above there is a very, very slight chance the bush and seals are not at fault, this can only be decided when the TC has been removed. There is no reason not to try Dr Tranny to give you more time if you have not already, two tubes max.It can when others can't,

Afraid so to do the job properly, but prices do vary, talk to your repairer. Ask what warranty there is with the work and get it in writing. As already said take the cheap route at your peril, you will only be going back in a few months time to have it done properly. It can when others can't,
