Standard Audio Unit FM Scan

Can anyone tell me how to stop the standard radio automatically scanning for a signal when it is tuned to an FM frequency which is only receiving a weak signal. I have been using an IPod plus ITrip but the radio keeps seeking a stronger signal such as Radio 2. Anyone any ideas or pint me to the right thread, I haven't had much success with a search.

Hiya

The itrip is the issue - your radio must be in RDS mode so searches automatically for the strongest signal available so as you travel it retunes, the signal grabbing & stability capability of the itrip is poor so the audio unit defeats it and skips to strongest signal & station. Also if you have TA enabled then this also takes over the Itrips frequency. I have had this happen but always make sure that TA is switched off when I am using my FM transmitter for my ipod and can travel 10's of miles without any disturbance or drop in music quality, its a 5 in 1 non branded unit which charges my itouch whilst in use.It has a broader frequency range so you can keep away from common frequencies that might distrupt your listening. I have had branded units and they all have been naff in all ways.

If you want details pm me

Thumbs Up

Thanks for that. I'll try switching the TA off first. However I did wonder about signal strength as the distance between the rear side window and the ITrip is probably greater than the device is intended to cope with. I guess I shouldn't have been such a cheapskate and should have paid to get the upgraded Audio!

Not necessary - mine works fine with my base audio unit and its not a branded fm transmitter, just need to get one that has strong signal grabbing potentila and wide operating frequency option.

Did switching off the TA work???

Of course their is another option - fix a fly lead into vehicle with 3.5mm jack and use Aux facility on yr audio unit (see various threads on forum as to how to do this).

Hope this helps.

Thumbs Up

Yes turning the TA off seems to have allowed me to listen to the IPod for more than 2 minutes. Fine on the journey to work this morning thanks.
