Replacement Tyre sizes and load rating

Hi

I am a bit confused on tyres.

I have 18" rims and my tyres are 255/60R18 with V112 load.

The tyres i have been looking at are 255/60R18 with H108 load, are these still ok to use, i know the hand book states H or V but they also state only 112 load.

Any advice please.

Sounds too low to me, I'd stick with 111 or higher

Stick with the 112 load rating,(111 for 17" and 19" tyres) if anything happened accident wise (god forbid), your insurance co. would more than likely leave you in the lurch.

Very limited for 255/60/18 with an adequate load rating. Essentially it's Scorpions or Wranglers for onroad (get the Scorpions if you will never ever ever get your car muddy as they offer superb grip and are quiet) or Grabber AT2 for All Terrain. I ditched the Scorpions for AT2s, but then I do get mine muddy most weeks. Whistle

Edit: Ok, so you can get Dunlop GrandTrek8000 or Conti CrossContact UHPs too..... (thanks to 4site4x4 for that) but no experience of these.
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

You have just answered a question to a post I was about to make.
My Scorpion Zero's have now done 17500 miles and are pretty knackered. I was going to ask if I should stick with the Scorpion's or consider something else.

Fitted 18" Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport about 3000km ago. Sizes, load ratings (112) etc all correct. Pricing locally 65% of Wranglers and Scorpions. Can't comment on life yet, very quiet, but definately on-road I guess.

Pirelli wear rate dosn't seem as good as the Wranglers.
I had 30k out of my first set of Wranglers.
My second set went to about 56k [when I changed wheels & tyres] with 3mm tread left.
Got Continentals, but there not as good as Wranglers -on 18k so far with them.
Reckon they'll need changed at 20k.
If only I could get wranglers in my 20" rims!!
 I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Granted, the Wranglers last longer, but the Scorpions grip better. I know what I'd rather have if I had to pile the brakes on in a hurry.

Noticed a big difference between the AT2s & Wranglers vs the Scorpions as well for hard braking. The Scorpions just seem to stick to the road wiith little or no slippage on a dry road, whereas others, especially the AT2s will cause the ABS to kick in right away and seem to take far longer to stop (especially when the back side of the car in front is getting bigger and bigger!) Wink. I got 28K miles from my first set of Scorpions before I had to change them due to uneven wearing.
 IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

Yup, the AT2s flex a fair bit more than the Scorpions, which tends to have the car buck and wobble more under heavy braking. I did some long hard thinking on whether to get a set of dedicated road tyres or not (I've got enough wheels for 4 offroad and 4 road but would have needed a couple more for offroad spares) and opted for a gentler driving style instead.

Still wonder from time to time if I wouldn't have been better off getting some 17" wheels with STTs and keeping to Scorpions, but as I tend to find myself going offroad at short notice (out of choice, not through poor driving) I think the AT2s are still the best bet for me.

Might be interesting to get a number of cars together on different tyres and try them back to back in offroad conditions? I know the trail will never the same from one car to the next as each car will degrade the surface, but it should be possible to get some idea of the relative strengths.
