Replacement fob also needs new module?

Hi, we believe our loving 19th month daughter may have put a key fob (keyless go) in the bin along with a number of other expensive bits and pieces over the last few months.

The battery went flat on the fob we had so we made the decision to buy another fob just in case. The disco 4 (4 years old this week) went in today for the new fob to be programmed and an MOT.

Went to pick it up tonight and I am told that they have made a mistake and the vehicle needs a module as landrover no longer make the old key fobs. I am told this is to prevent thefts from people using scanners to clone keys and then enter or steal the keys once you have left the vehicle. This all sounds sensible but I was a little miffed to not have the car completed and also having to have to pay another £110.00 on top of the £260 for the fob and the £60 for the key (as well as £65 to programme).

I make this about £475.00 for the key and fob!!

Does anyone know if this is correct and if there is a short cut - at this rate it will be an insurance claim!!

Just to really finish me off they never even phoned to say the car was not complete, the valet was half complete but they did manage to do the MOT - I am guessing they spent all day trying to figure out why they couldn't get the new fob to work!

thanks mw

I do find it hard to believe as I required a replacement key for my 54 plate discovery 3. I order the key from nick at Yeovil paying the required fee of £120 something pounds and mikey then coded the key to the car in about 20 seconds using a faultmate...

So unless someone more knowledgable tells me that there are some peculiar differences with a D4 then I don't understand the dealer charges for this work!!

I am afraid the price is correct although I managed to get mine done under warranty on my MY10 D4. It took the dealer 3 attemps to do it. I ended up with 2 new keys and a new module.

Son in law had exactly the same problem with his D3, except LR did not charge for the module or the second key fob Shocked it took them a week to sort it and they accepted it was not the owners fault that a new key fob could not be programmed, this was a year ago on a my05 D3.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Landrover provided the module FOC in the end so only had to pay for the fob and the programming. The programming took them about 5 hours in the end before it would play ball.

All sorted - will guard the fobs with my life from now on!!
