Replaced air compressor, now gallery can’t keep pressure
Hey dudes and dudettes,
My D3 is a trooper with over 200k on the clock and not much more than routine maintenance. It’s had a Dunlop EAS compressor for the last few years, which finally sprung a leak on that metal plate that’s just glued on. I tried to reglue or reseal the plate back on but that promptly sprung a leak, so I replaced the compressor.
I’m back up and running, but the compressor is running very often. When I view live data on my nanocom the gallery pressurizes to around 1238 tops, then slowly decreases.
The EAS worked fine with no leaks prior to the pump giving out. I didn’t touch the reservoir valve block.
I’m think that either something got into the valve block during the service, or somehow coincidentally I sprung a new leak during the service???
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the “gallery” pressure is the line pressure, not the reservoir?

I believe the gallery pressure is the pressure to the central valve block from the output of the compressor. This may be the same as the reservoir depending on which valves are open. The valve to the reservoir is open when the compressor runs and then closes to isolate the reservoir before the compressor shuts down and vents.
Have you checked the connections on the new compressor with soapy water?2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

The gallery is the whole system except the reservoir, it fills the system/galle4y first then the reservoir. You must have a leak check all the joints and pipes.

The gallery pressure sensor is the sensor on the reservoir valve block, correct?
It seems way too random to me that I’ve got a leak after the reservoir valve, when I didn’t before. But I can’t condemn the new compressor, because if i understand correctly, the gallery is the line system between the reservoir block and the front/rear blocks. If the reservoir valve block is closed, then I’m either leaking from a line, or one of the blocks, but not an air spring because I’m not lowering overnight.2010 NAS Disco 4 HSE LUX HD petrol

What compressor did you fit? AMK or Hitachi . When the pump first runs it fills all the lines and airbags, once they are at pressure it will then fill the res.

I replaced a hitachi with a hitachi.
My bags are filled and holding just fine, but I’m slowly losing gallery pressure. I suppose I’m trying to confirm my suspicions that wherever the leak is, it’s between the reservoir valve block and the front and rear blocks… otherwise I would see settling of some sort.

Wonder if you’ve got a leak on ur air tank, seeing they normally leak along the top where u can’t see it
Can remove the air line from the reservoir valve block going to the tank and use a hand vacuum pump or a small amount of air with a pressure gauge to save u taking it out
Before that with the compressor running can spray all the pipe connections on the compressor and reservoir valve block with some soapy water ( plus of course if u don’t mind me adding , plse ensure u use axle stands when getting near the sills/ under the disco )
As you’ve fitted a new compressor which now provides better pressure maybe that was just enough to make the air tank seam leak or a connector etc

Man would that be an inconvenience if the tank was shot.
If there were a leak at any of the hoses disconnected during service of the compressor, that wouldn’t cause the gallery pressure to decrease right? It would cause the gallery to pressurize more slowly, but once the RVB closed, the leaking would stop?

Although you have fitted a new pump it might still be faulty, make sure the exhaust valve is not sticking and not fully closing.
Have you tested how long it takes to rach full pressure.?

That’s a fair point, my confidence in the low-price hitachi clone isn’t high.

Hi wondering if this was resolved as I’ve got the exact issueMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes,pads,callipers,flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)

Hello, no I never resolved it. Could possibly be a faulty tank.
The reservoir does deplete on its own, but I rarely every drive the truck so I’m not working the compressor too hard or caring too much.

The gallery is filled first, (ie) all the pipe work and air bags, once that is at working pressure then the res gets filled, I would start to leak test the pipe work and the res to the centre valve block and clean the vale out.
