Replace PCV and VCV on high pressure fuel pump - possible? |
|
Given that there are currently no VDO high pressure fuel pumps in the UK I'm wondering how viable it is to change the PVC and VCV on the pump myself. The pump is a reman unit replaced about a year ago but I had repeated P0087 faults during the hot weather (low load, low rpm). It's not doing it any more and is driving fine even at full throttle - but I don't want to be caught out the next time it's hot.
Looking at the valve online it looks like it should be a simple change but I'm wondering why it says in the manual it isn't something that should be changed on the unit.
Any pointers gratefully received!

Have you tried PF Jones for the HP fuel pump? They do Siemens/VDO remanufactured ones. I've had one on my D3 for 3 years now with no issues.

Yeah I'm currently in discussion with them as well as someone else who can source one - the only thing that is putting me off is I've heard two different things from two different people there about if they replace both valves or not! One says they do and the other said they don't.
Good to hear you've had success with yours though. Do you recall if the valves looked like new parts? And curious to know if they'd painted it at all? The Lucas one I have on currently is all painted black including the valves.

It was all unpainted and looked like a brand new unit.

Good news thanks - I think I'll go down that road then.
