Outing in Serbia - Deliblato Sands

Last Saturday Disco saw its first offroading (judging by the lack of branch scratches) in 208,000km
The destination chosen was Deliblatska pescara (Deliblato sands) - the largest sandy terrain in Europe, part of prehistoric desert known as European Sahara.

Disco 3 was joined by a friend's lovely 1975 SIII 88" that i've shared many memories (2019 Transfagarasan without clutch Smile )

Considering this was my first offroad experience, i was amazed by its capability despite wearing fully worn Conti Winter tyres.

Can't wait for the next one!
Enjoy the photos

This looks fantastic! Discovery in its natural habitat Thumbs Up
My D3 looks exactly like yours with the same alloys and she has quite a bit of pine stripes. First I didn‘t mind them but maybe a layer of car wrap at some places wouldn‘t hurt Whistle
You may want to upgrade to sill protectors or tree bars with your style of driving Rolling with laughter

thanks guys Smile

I have to say that it did hurt a bit listening to the very first screeches and twig breaks, but you get used to it after a while and not bother going out to attack the branch with a saw Smile
However i am seriously considering covering it in foil - can't make up my mind yet do i try and fix the paintwork and do the clear protective one or go with a full coloured metallic foil and forget about it...

The tree sliders do really sound like a good idea having seen this belly rub - luckily this was soft sand, so no damage, but come rocks or ruts...
Any suggestions for the sill protectors? Rock/Tree slides - haven't found yet the ones i'd take, they all seem too big and need a full off-road theme otherwise they look out of place

Trip to Serbia

Hi Mr Bulatovic,

We're planning a trip to Serbia in our D3 (G4 Challenge) next month. We've just inherited a house in Lisine, near the Reskeva Caves/Valleys so are keen to link up with other D3 owners in the country to know about reliable servicing and parts distribution etc.

Would be keen to hear how easy it is owning and running a D3 in Serbia?

Btw, these are the Rock sliders we fitted to our D3:

Best wishes

Jimmy

hey Jimmy,

great to hear about your planned trip and new piece of land - that part of Serbia is super gorgeous, i haven't explored nearly enough there! D3 will for sure feel at home Smile
As for owning and running, check these two threads:
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/first-disco...87071.html
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/2008-tdv6-h...88482.html
In short i'd say it's relatively easy - for sure not as easy as for example a VW Golf, but there are a few good indy shops - out of which i had great experience with Likos which is perhaps also the cheapest. Expect 30ish GBP per worked hour, parts slightly more expensive than the usual ones Britpart/allmakes/bearmach than you can get from JohnCraddock or similar. I'm managing somehow Very Happy

Unf. there's not a too big Disco club, but for sure when you decide to come, let me know i can gather a few fans of these trucks for a beer Smile

As for the tree sliders - should rust be a worry there with the TFs?

Cheers
Luka
