OBD2 Render inoperable

Hi, I have the OBD2 port loose at the minute while I tighten up the contacts.

It got me thinking, could I cut one of the wires and put in a micro switch, thereby making it inoperable unless you know where the secret switch is. Which wire would be the one to cut?

I think a D4 is not so desirable these days as the current flock are so easy to steal. But a belt and braces never harmed anyone.

I don't know how sensitive the system is but be aware that the CanBus is twisted pair wiring and as such doing something to one half could reduce its capabilities.

It's as much about slowing any opportunity thief down so just moving the connector to a different location as far as the loom will allow could be equally as effective.

The "current flock" are not that easy to steal, possibly even harder but the high value and esteem makes them a very attractive target which the thief is willing to invest in what is needed to get them away from the rightful owners.

One of our tradesmen went to great lengths to secure his tools inside his van. Then he realised it wouldn't help is someone could just drive it away. He then fitted a locking hasp over the port.

Oh heck, I untwisted some of the wires to get access to the terminals. Oops. Better check it is still working then. Will let you know.

I have run through some checks, tests and maintenance routines and all
seems well. I left it loose so it will be a pain to connect too but that much harder for a thief
